The stories and meditations in the Great Spirit Series for Little Souls are, of course, fictional, inspired by the awesome landscape of the Mid-West and the values of the people who care so deeply for it. It would have been easy for me to convert the traditional stories of the Lakota and Cheyenne into meditations for children but these ceremonies and stories are Sacred to people who have had too much taken away from them already.

The stories of Little White Feather and Sweet Meadowlark were formed in my imagination, and they have been written to inspire young children to appreciate the world around them, to encourage them to be creative, to respect their environment, to love and respect the elderly and to be kind to animals, for as the Lakota say:-
We Are All Related

The Native American people are warm and generous, their hospitality is truly humbling. I consider I would be failing them if I did not draw attention to the continuing struggles they face on the reservations where they now live and I have pledged to help them as much as I can.
